From May 17 to 20, Michael Jemetz attended the international INSTICC conference “Computer Supported Education” (CSEDU) at the Meliá Villaitana Hotel in Benidorm. There, he not only attended a variety of presentations on innovative approaches to digital-supported education, but also presented a project of his own.

In his presentation, he introduced the paper he co-authored with Renate Motschnig, “A Design Thinking Approach to a Socio-Technical Framework Supporting Pre-Service Teachers’ Development of Digital Competences: The dig!self-Prototype”. This paper addresses the Design Thinking process through which the dig!self framework – central to Michael’s dissertation – was developed. Informed by the interview series presented in 2024 at the FIE and ISSEP conferences, a systematic literature review, and their research group’s previous work, the two authors held design meetings with various stakeholders for ideation.
The result is a prototypical implementation of the framework within the course “Lehren und Lernen – Kollaboratives und selbstreguliertes Lernen von digitalen- und KI-Kompetenzen” [“Teaching and Learning – Collaborative and Self-Regulated Learning of Digital and AI Skills”]. The course component guided participants in developing their digital competencies using the tools and resources made available on the course page. Initial results show potential, and further evaluations are already underway.
Between the inspiring sessions, the conference also offered ample opportunity to network with researchers in the field and make new contacts.
