As established in the first semester of the seminar, Renate Motschnig’s Significant Learning Community course “Bildungsinnovation im Kontext der Digitalisierung” [“Educational Innovation in the Context of Digitalization”] was enriched by guest course facilitators again this semester. Jeffrey Cornelius-White and Yasuko Kanamori from the Missouri State University joined the group for an online meeting and visited Vienna for a multi-day series of activities.

Following a digital seminar unit where the participants and guest facilitators got to know each other and discussed dissertation topics in the context of the Person-Centered approach in early May, the visit was kicked-off by an informal walk-and-talk on the “Donauinsel” and a communal dinner on Sunday the 25th. This did not only serve community building by providing the opportunity for friendly exchange without rigorous time constraints but also allowed the participants to better prepare for getting the most out of the individual consultations offered by the two guests on Monday and Tuesday.

Those sessions gave the doctoral students the opportunity to get the experts’ input on their projects and discuss open questions with them. Support in dealing with issues during the dissertation phase and personal struggles was provided in these consultations as well.

Of course, a regular seminar session was held on Monday as well. There, Dr. Jef introduced the group – everyone was able to attend in person again – to Person Centered Therapy and provided the group with the opportunity to test out the Focusing technique. Further, the connection to Person Centered Education and possible overlaps with and applications for research were discussed.

A great thank you to the administration team of the course, trans!doc, and – last but certainly not least – Dr. Jef and Dr. Yasuko for the engaging and productive days!
