The last unit of the course “Teaching and Learning – Collaborative and self-regulated learning of digital competences”, which is offered as part of the Introduction to Educational Sciences curriculum, took place on the 17th June 2025. The course was facilitated by Michael Jemetz, who – together with experienced colleagues from the EDEN – Education, Didactics and Entertainment Computing Research Group at the Faculty of Computer Science and the Work Group Digitalization in Education at the Center for Teacher Training – developed the concept as part of his dissertation.

The course introduced the students from various fields to the concept of digital competences, provided up-to-date conceptualizations of competences needed for managing generative AI and guided them in shelf-regulated learning phases during which they developed their digital competences. Finally, the students had the opportunity to plan and conduct lessons using their newly acquired digital competences in the course, get feedback and reflect on their learning process. Resources developed for these lessons were not only shared with all participants of the current course but will be made available to future students as well.
The course facilitator continuously collected feedback from the students. This data as well as the students’ performance and reflections – both by students and the facilitator – inform the further refinement of the course concept which will be implemented and evaluated in the winter semester of 2025.
A great “Thank you” goes to all colleagues who helped with the development of the course concept and to the participants, for their engagement in the course!
