From the 27th to the 30th of October 2024, Michael Jemetz attended the ISSEP conference hosted by the Faculty of Informatics at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Budapest. On Sunday, a doctoral consortium was held. Here, dissertation projects were presented in a poster session and experienced researchers as well as peers gave extensive and helpful feedback. Further, the event offered a great opportunity to interact with colleagues and network.
On Monday, the main event began. Researchers from all over Europe and beyond came together to interact and present their current work in the field of Computer Science Education. Among these presentations was Michael’s talk “Secondary Teachers’ Self-Perceived AI Competences in Relation to Renowned European Digital Competence Frameworks” on a research project he conducted together with Dominik Dolezal and Renate Motschnig. In this project, they derived extensions to the DigComp framework based on qualitative interviews with teachers. The ability to use AI systems in a goal-oriented manner as well as a critical approach to outputs generated by these systems are among the most important competences identified in this context.
Furthermore, the Organizing Committee booked a conference dinner on board a restaurant ship on the Danube for the participants and took them on a city tour featuring a visit to the tallest building in Budapest and a treasure hunt game. The trip yielded lots of opportunities not only to get to know the city but also to make new contacts.
A great “Thank you!” to the ELTE-Team for the organization of the conference and their hospitality as well as for the experts participating in the Doctoral Consortium for their feedback!
