All doctoral candidates of the dig!doc consortium attended the the B3 initiative’s Summerschool for research methods in Klagenfurt organized by the “Gut beraten?” [Well advised?]consortium. Looking back, we can report on an inspiring and valuable experience.

The program offered various inputs that helped deepen our understanding  of research methods through hands-on, practice-oriented workshops, Sense-Making-Sessions and a podium discussion. The latter was also particularly valuable as it allowed us to reflect on our career opportunities. In addition to providing us with new insights into qualitative, quantitative or mixed research methods, the workshops and sense-making sessions also invited us to directly apply our new knowledge to or dissertation projects.

The unique combination of professional exchange with international experts and doctoral candidates from all over Austria with the backdrop of Lake Wörth made the Summerschool into a special experience. Radiating inspiration and tranquility, the environment enabled us to follow creative impulses and embrace new ideas. Needless to say, the free evenings were used for laying the groundwork for collaborative projects.

Teambuilding was the second central component of the week. Various activities such as stand-up paddling, yoga or a trip to Velden via boat contributed to networking and developing a sense of community with equal focus being placed on fun and regeneration as well as academic exchange.

All in all, the B3 Summerschool in Klagenfurt was a well-organized and executed event: Methodological depth, room for personal development, an inspiring environment, and successful team moments is what this event stands for. Having gathered many valuable ideas, we are looking forward to future learning and networking opportunities in similar settings.
