As part of the trans!docSignificant Learning Community course “Educational Innovation in the Context of Digitalization”, on Wednesday, 11.12.2024, at the University College of Teacher Education Vienna, the participants developed a recipe for their own dissertation together in a hybrid setting. The methapor of ‘cooking’ was used to deal with the dissertation projects. This creative approach yielded a benevolent and productive atmosphere and helped the participants visualize their dissertation as a well-thought-out and well-prepared dish that should inspire both themselves and the ‘eaters’ (readers, interested parties).

The participants were encouraged to consider whether they had all the necessary ‘ingredients’ such as literature, data and methods at their disposal. The doctoral students also addressed the question of whether the ‘recipe’ is clear and precise and whether the research questions and method(s) are presented in an understandable way. In the ‘cooking process’, the participants were asked to think about possible challenges and ‘cooking problems’ and to develop strategies to overcome them. In the ‘taste test’, participants were encouraged to obtain feedback on their dissertations from supervisors, fellow students or other relevant persons at an early stage and to incorporate this into the revision process. In the presentation step, the focus was on how the work can be designed and presented in an appealing way to inspire the ‘eaters’.

At the end a jointly prepared Mediterranean salad delighted those present, demonstrating the good coordination and cooperation of everyone. The online participants prepared salads simultaniously and engaged in the exchange. The salads were then enjoyed together with punch and a relaxed pre-Christmas atmosphere.
