The research workshop ‘Political Activism and Participatory Research’ organised by the Institute for Educational Science at the University of Vienna addressed this question and many others. The research workshop took place from 13th February to 15th February. Exciting contributions on participatory research in education, disability, disadvantage and vulnerability as well as democracy, activism and criticism were discussed.

The PhD students Michael Jemetz and Selina Gartner had the opportunity to take part in the research workshop and get exciting insights for their own research. The research workshop also offered the opportunity to network with other doctoral students over coffee and cake.

On Friday, Selina Gartner and Lou Leopold (TU Vienna) presented their concerns about unequal power relations in participatory research. In an exciting discussion with the participants of the session many questions were clarified and new issues raised.

Overall, the research workshop was a great enrichment for the participants and there may even be an opportunity to contribute to an anthology (tbd).
