Description of the project:
There are two central questions in the reasearch project “(Re-)Connected Learning in Basic Digital Education Classes“:
- What are challenges for school belonging in BDE classes?
- How can school belonging be improved by centering students’ interactions with a focus on digital practices?
The aim of the project is to explore how collaborative learning is possible in Basic Digital Education and which teaching methods are suitable for this. On the basis of interviews with students and teachers as well as participant observations in Basic Digital Education classes, students will design teaching methods for inclusive, lifelike Basic Digital Education. This participatory approach allows students to be co-researchers and co-designers during the research process, which enables them to actively include their own perspectives in their designs.
The research project is based on Yuval-Davis’ (2006) concept of belonging and focuses on three critical factors to determine belonging:
- Social location,
- identity and emotional attachment, and
- political values.
The participatory approach builds on Rogers’ and Freiberg’s (1994) student-centered learning. With this theoretical framework, a participatory design project (Dindler et al., 2020) with students will be conducted. During this project, students will co-design teaching concepts für Basic Digital Education classes.
