On January 19, 2026, the final session of the second iteration of „Lehren und Lernen – Kollaboratives und selbstreguliertes Lernen von digitalen- und KI-Kompetenzen“ (“Teaching and Learning – Collaborative and Self-Regulated Learning of Digital and AI Skills”) took place. The updated course concept builds on the findings from research on the first iteration of the course, which was designed as part of Michael Jemetz’s dissertation project. The doctoral candidate once again took on the role of course facilitator.

As in the last iteration of the course, after an introduction to the topics of digital competences and self-regulated learning, participants from a wide range of disciplines once again engaged in self-regulated learning phases and held lessons.

This semester, not only the course was developed further by strengthening the connection of its contents to teaching practice, adding additional input on selected topics, and offering more extensive support for the self-regulated learning phases but the entire competency development framework, which is being developed as part of Michael’s dissertation, was revised as well. The biggest innovation was a digital platform providing tools, prompt templates, and learning materials, some of which were already used in the first course iteration in the form of a simple link collection on the course page, in a structured form and tailored to the target group.

At the end of the semester, the participants learning processes were reflected in focus groups. Together with the students’ written reflections, response sheets, and self-assessments, the course feedback, and the facilitator’s evaluations of the final projects and own reflections, this results in a comprehensive database that will be evaluated over the coming months.

A great “Thank you” goes to all colleagues from the research group EDEN – Education, Didactics and Entertainment Computing the work group Digitalization in Education  who helped with the development of the course concept and to the participants, for their input and engagement in the course!
