Following a small-scale introductory unit, the Significant Learning Community (SILC) of the course “Bildungsinnovation im Kontext der Digitalisierung” (“Educational Innovation in the Context of Digitalization”) facilitated by Renate Motschnig welcomed Bernhard Standl from PH Karlsruhe as guest facilitator. Over three course units, the expert in learner-centered education and experienced computer science teacher turned researcher accompanied the seminar group on site in Vienna, while individual participants from various regions of Austria participated digitally utilizing the hybrid setup once again supported by Vera Schwarz.

The units included theoretical input and active elements. In guided exercises, the group deepened their understanding of active listening and focusing, which they had already experienced in the previous semester. In the discussion rounds on research and teaching, the co-facilitator brought in his experience in both areas. A particular focus was placed on the conditions for successful learner-centered teaching and how research in the area can be implemented.

In addition to the normal units, he also offered individual counseling sessions for students in which challenges in their projects and potential solutions were discussed.

The following course units continued with group consultations and work on the dissertation projects. Furthermore, building on the engagement with the Person-Centered Approach, the Person-Centered Technology-Enhanced Learnings, which was shaped by the two course-facilitators, was covered in greater depth with inputs from Renate Motschnig. General questions on the dissertation process such as “When do I ask my supervisor for help?” were also discussed, and the results of the first investigation on the framework conditions and effects of the SILC were presented.
